Still working on removing grass, but now I have 3 chickens helping me! Here's today's progress, and you can see the chickens resting in the hollow of the log after their long day's work!
A close-up...they're pooped from their hard work.
Here's a shot of approximately the same area from June, 2007. The grassy strip on the left is what I'm removing.

Go chickens!
How cool! When my friend had chickens they destroyed her back yard, I immediately thought it would be a nice little business to prepare grassy areas for planting with a chicken planting bed preparation service. Wanna turn your parking strip into a garden oasis? Don't do it yourself! Call 'Cluck Cluck' grass removal service!
yay chickens!
looking forward to seeing the end result. It's very encouraging to me to hear that your yard and the grass removal has been such a long work in progress. Every year I only get to a tiny section of the yard/garden. I'm finally accepting that it will never be *finished* and I feel much more satisfied with the progress in it's tiny increments.
Clare -- gardens do seem to be life-long projects, so hang in there!
shawn, that's brilliant! at my place, though, they'd be in competetion w/ the moles. :(
