Ready for the Seals!

Out of several attempts, this was actually the best shot where you can see how short the hair is. It's about 1.5" at the top, and it all stands straight up. I'm thinking of going to just 1" next, or maybe going for a crew cut.

Here's the shot from a few days ago, before the haircut.

Goofing off

After I finally got my boxes off to UPS yesterday afternoon, I took the rest of the day off, and then proceeded to do not much today too. Met with some friends for lunch, which was fun, and then spent a considerable amount of time at the Goodwill. I actually had things that I was looking for—some dinner dishes and bowls, cause I'm gonna have more visitors this summer; and a large purse with a long strap that I could wear across my shoulder. The big black purse Sundry sent me has gone to Taiwan with my sister, and I've been using the one she left behind instead. It's actually not a bad purse, but the strap is just a wee bit short and I find it difficult to get it on and off across my shoulder. And it's short enough that I have a hard time unzipping it when I'm wearing it. And with gloves on, it's even more frustrating.

Anyhow, I found 3 dinner plates to add to my stash; I'll probably get a couple more before my visitors come this summer. Unfortunately, I didn't find just quite the right bag.

But I tell you, goofing off just isn't what it used to be—the whole time I was thinking, I really should be working on my text for the game.

No gallery representation for me

Having had no luck in finding something that I can just use for senior #1's book covers (although I really wasn't expecting to), I came home from Art Media empty handed. I did also pick up my prints my Print Arts, which will close its gallery at the end of the month. So sad. I seem to be going around closing galleries. First Rake, now Print Arts. So now I'm left with no galleries.

Still working on squaring up the paper for the book, but I am finished with laying out the front side of the book. So that's progress.

The random movie: Vicky Cristina Barcelona. I liked it, a light-hearted romp about the nature of love. We did see a bunch of other random movies over the last few weeks: The Dark Knight (not as good as I hoped), the new Mummy movie (possibly one of the worst movies I've ever seen, right up there with 300), and Journey to the Center of the Earth (it was ok, but I really liked the original movie, and love the book, so this was bound to disappoint).

The moon is full and lovely, but three days in a row?

My glasses clearly need some adjusting, but I could swear that the moon has been full for 3 nights in a row now.

I'm normally very good at detecting just the teeniest bit of the moon missing, but not this month.

Otherwise, it's a perfectly normal Sunday, a day of chores, the weight room, and a play.

Week of chores, catch up, and taxes

As always, we've left taxes until the last moment. So this week has been set aside to do taxes, plus I have a ton of loose ends to catch up on, emails to respond to. U. of Wisconsin is buying a copy of Fatherland, that was shipped out today; plus the AU copies of Pudding went out too; Portland Open Studios stuff; much needed errands.

And, I went looking for a small stereo or a nice boombox, so I can listen to Andreas Scholl in all the rooms I frequent. Otherwise, I'm sitting in front of the computer all the time just so I can listen to the music (like right now, repeatedly checking to see if I have more email coming in just so I can keep listening). The boombox in my studio doesn't do it justice, which is of course true of the Deborah Voight CD I just got too, and pretty much everything else I play in the studio.

OK, this will be the 3rd time that I've mentioned Andreas Scholl, so any time now, one of you could jump in and say, "yes, yes, he's an amazing singer! I'm in love too!"

Make all the plans I want, but...

I had today's entry all mapped out in my head; it was going to be a 2 months review of the MiT project, plus a run down of the mockup options for the book for my Rock Star senior. But I am suddenly exhausted. So instead, I'll just mention the distractions of the day:

1. The Saturn died. Kaput. With no warning or anything. Yesterday, everything was just fine, and today, nada. The lights all still work, so that eliminates the obvious. The shop won't be able to look at it until Monday, so that pretty much screws up my schedule for early next week. I guess that means I'll have the time to focus on the book!

2. Alice needed her web site updated, and she only gave me a couple of weeks. Unlike Rebecca, who seems to have totally dived into updating her own web site after our lesson session and then picking up the Nutshell book, Alice still completely relies on me to do it. So I got about 1/2 of that done today.

Worked on mocking up the book a bit, and I think I can see that I'm not going down that road already, but I'll probably get it a bit more finished before I decide for sure.

I'm done with scary movies

Random Movie of the week — I Am Legend. And like I said, I'm done with scary movies. Can't take them like I used to, not that I ever could very well. But now I've finally wised up and see that I shouldn't spend money on it. Besides...[ SPOILER ALERT............the dog died...you'd think that he could've strapped the dog down until he found a cure, like he did with the infected human............END SPOILER ALERT]...which always makes me sad.

Other than that, spent the afternoon at the library and the morning at the dentist. I'm getting anxious about my meeting with my 2nd senior tomorrow. Hope it will go well. Of course, now I'm a nervous wreck about it, it will probably go terribly.

Me and my fainting couch

I hope I'm not having a relapse of my cold, or whatever it was I had. When I got home from the weight room, I was so exhausted that I went straight from the front door to the sofa and slept, instantly and very soundly, until dinner time. And I'm still feeling pretty tired. Needless to say, I slept away what might've been my studio time today. Tomorrow, I meet with my RSM senior for our 2nd printing session...news at 11 tomorrow night.

Phew, another long day

Diane came over and we flashed a bunch of screens for a gocco project at Atkinson this coming Thursday (for which I have to be at the school by 8:30am!). Then it was off to a late lunch, and then to City Hall to deliver my prints. While I was in town, I also snuck over to Portland Art Center, hoping to catch the PDX Panels show early and see if there was anything I wanted, but they weren't all hung yet. I guess I have to wait until tomorrow like everyone else. Shelley wrote a nice entry for the Portland Open Studios blog on the show. Took me a bit of time to edit and upload it (wordpress was doing some maintenance thing and I kept on getting these "sorry, we're doing some maintenance thing please come back later" message. (So far, I have to say that I think blogspot is better than wordpress, despite hearing otherwise from some people. Although, I do have trouble with blogspot at times, too—it does not seem to like to upload several images all at once, even though it lets you do so. And sometimes it even has trouble uploading just 1 image.)

But anyhow, doesn't seem like I accomplished a whole lot, but it sure did take a lot of time.
