Happy dance!

OK, the screens are finished!

And per request by Dr. Russ, here's my happy dance video:

I really am dancing...it's true. (It's from my phone.) The CD is Naser Musa's Khaliji album (with Souhail Kaspar on drums); this piece is called Laylah.

Here's a still photo of 3 of the 6 panels:

And those extra 100 brass screws that I drove all over town to get? I needed exactly 2 of them!

Oh, I don't know, I thought this was an interesting take on a dance video -- from the perspective of the dancer. I was belly dancing to the music, although, admittedly, not dancing wildly. Actually, all afternoon, as I was working on the piece, I had the CD on and was dancing intermittently, while holding a screwdriver in one hand.

tee hee! i wanted to see you dance, too, but i appreciate the interpretation.

did you choose to fill every other hole in as a purposeful design choice or was it just because that's how many screens you had?

also, why did you only have to use 2 of those screws?

Wow, this is gorgeous! Wish I could see it in person.

I like how the camera gyrates. I'm looking forward to seeing this project in person at your talk this weekend. Will you dance then too?

gl -- My plan was always to just fill about 1/2 of the holes; the "every other hole" design came out of the fact that someone who does not live in Portland actually build the wood frame part of the screen, and that was just the simplest way to deal with the long distance design/manufacture process.

The original design called for 1 more row of holes height wise, and that was the number I used to calculate the # of screws I needed; also, when you buy the screws, it's done by weight, so they were just more generous in their calculation. Between the two, I only needed the 2 extra screws!

Dr. Russ & Sundry -- Thank you!

Margaret -- If someone brings a drum and a violin and plays ME music for me, then heck, yes, I'll dance at the talk!
